There abound false prophets who claimed to speak in the name of the Lord among the exiles as they prevail also in our time. These false prophets tell the people what they want to hear.
The message of the Lord which was communicated to them through a letter by Jeremiah was not palatable to their ears. God’s message is that their exile is His plan for them. Thus, they should willingly submit themselves to Nebuchadnezzar. But some of them were disobedient as they kept listening to false prophets. Notice the consequence of their disobedience (Jeremiah 29:17-19). However, against all expectations, those who did not go into exile would be worse than those who went into captivity. God was to pity them for obeying Him (Jeremiah 29:16-19).
The false prophets would equally have their own portion of the punishment. See this in Jeremiah 29:21-22,32. Disobedience to God’s word or instruction will always be punished. When the disobedient repents, God forgives because He is merciful (Proverbs 28:13; 1 John 1:9).
And So
God will punish all our present-day false prophets as well, except they repent.
